Redressal of tax payers’ grievances top priority: CCIT

JAMMU: Redressal of the grievances of tax payers is the top most priority of the Income Tax (IT) Department.
This was asserted by Binay Kumar Jha, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (CCIT), Amritsar and Ludhiana while addressing a meeting of members of ICAI, Jammu Branch and Income Tax Bar Members wherein senior officers of IT Department including S.K Sharma, Additional CIT, Hemant Gupta, Joint CIT and other officials were also present.
In the meeting, the CCIT discussed various issues on Income Tax matters and sought suggestions besides giving on the spot clarifications on the queries raised. He also applauded the tax payers and tax professionals of Jammu and Kashmir for the overwhelming cooperation in meeting targets assigned to the department at Jammu. He also complemented them for the excellent performance shown during the Income Declaration Scheme, in which the state surpassed all the big stations of North-West region in achieving the given targets.
Making a call on the ongoing Prime Minister Garib Kalyan Yojna-2016, the CCIT said that Government has given this opportunity to people for voluntarily declaring about the cash deposits made in accounts with banks or post offices. Under this scheme, the government will charge tax at the rate of 50 per cent. Apart from this, 25 per cent of the amount declared will go into the non interest-bearing Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Deposit Scheme for four years and proceeds of which will be used for the benefit of the poor.
It was further assured that declarations under PMGKY will be confidential and will not be admissible as evidence under any Act-Central Excise Act, Wealth-Tax Act, Companies Act, etc. It was made clear that the department has been provided information of cash deposited by the persons after the announcement of demonetisation on 8th November 2016 from all bank accounts and correlating this with existing income-tax data is under progress. It was impressed upon all the concerned to avail the benefit of this PMGKY-16 in operation up to 31st March.
The meeting was attended by prominent tax professionals including Chartered Accountants Ashwani Khajuria, Sudhir Arora, Rakesh Gupta, V.K Kapoor, Amit Gupta, Hemant Sharma, Sanjay Gupta, R.K Chugh, Pawan Kapoor, Shalley Razdan and Advocates Sat Mehta, Rattan Lal Gupta, R.K Mahajan, R.K Dogra, V.K Grover and V.K Suri.
