JAMMU: The GGM Science College on Friday defeated Model Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET) by 41 runs to become the Jammu city champions in Red Bull Campus Cricket 2017 at GGM Science College Hostel Ground, here. Now, Science College shall represent in the zonal finals to be played between the six teams.
Batting first, Science College made 143 runs for six wickets in the Twenty20 game. Sant Baksh remained top scorer with 45 runs. In reply, MIET could not chase and was bowled out for 102 runs. Again Sant Baksh played superb innings with ball taking away five wickets for 15 runs.
The GGM Science College will now represent Jammu and face off against six other cities in the Zonal finals. Top two teams from each zone will then compete in the national finals, where the teams will play in the knock-out rounds of quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals respectively. The national winner will then represent India in the Red Bull Campus Cricket World Series Championship 2017.
Earlier, in a preliminary round of semifinals, Science College defeated Yogananda College of Engineering and Technology while MIET trounced Institute of Management Sciences.
After a spectacular season in 2016, Red Bull Campus Cricket returns to bowl over budding cricketers in the country.
Taking the competition up one more notch, the global, T20 college cricket tournament has added two new cities to its roster and will witness the highest participation ever with 170 teams across 26 cities.
