Reckless driving claims life of 18-year old

JAMMU: Hurry to mint extra bucks and utter negligence of mini-bus driver claimed life of an 18-year old youth trashing all claims made by the Traffic Police Department of working day and night to streamline traffic scenario in Jammu city.
The incident took place on Friday morning, when the victim identified as Aman, son of Babu Ram, resident of Gole Panj Pir Talab Tillo, was standing on the footboard of a moving mini-bus (JK02BN-0677) plying on Panjtirthi to Talab Tillo route.
On reaching Nitco Lane, when the aforesaid matador was passing through another matador (JK02AX-9541), which was standing to de-board passengers, Aman who was standing on the footboard was hit by the stationary matador and consequently fell down receiving grave injuries. The locals shifted the injured youth to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, where he succumbed to his injuries on Friday evening.
As soon as the news of Aman’s death spread in the vicinity, relatives and neighbours of the bereaved family assembled on Talab Tillo road near deceased’s residence and staged protest against the mini-bus drivers and traffic police, demanding stringent against the mini-bus drivers for driving recklessly.
The traffic on the busy Talab Tillo road remained blocked for about two hours. The protesters also demanded to install speed retarders on specific places on this road stretch to discourage rash driving so that such mishaps do not occur in future.
The accused driver identified as Arjun Singh alias Kali, son of Gurdeep Singh, resident of Udheywala Bohri (who was driving mini-bus with registration No JK02BN-0677) and Rakesh Kumar alias Mundri, son of Krishan Lal, resident of Akhnoor driver of another matador (JK02AX-9541) have been arrested while Police has seized both of the vehicles involved in the accident.
A case vide FIR No. 166/2016 under Section 279/304-A was registered at Police Station Nowabad and inquest proceedings were initiated.
Earlier also, one girl Janvi Gupta (16), daughter of Naresh Gupta, resident of Talab Tillo, a student of 11th Class was crushed to death by an over-speeding mini-bus in the same area on 5th June 2016.
