NAGROTA: Provincial President National Conference Devender Singh Rana on Wednesday sought time-bound magisterial inquiry into the alleged sacrilegious act at Jagti, saying the perpetrators of the crime are needed to be identified and punished as per law for their sinister designs of vitiating the atmosphere and disturbing tranquility.
“The probe should cover entire gambit of events that have potential of flaring up passions at any point of time”, Rana said while joining the protesters in Dharna on National Highway near Jagti. He sat on Dharna for about two hours along with the locals.
He said the peace loving people of Nagrota cannot be provoked and those attempting to do so may have to lick the dust before the firm resolve of the populace, which is known for communal harmony and tranquility. He expressed anguish over the unfortunate incident and said the best way to foil the designs of peace breakers is to stand united and frustrate evil designs of the perpetrators.
Elaborating on the comprehensive probe, the MLA Nagrota urged the Deputy Commissioner Jammu and the Sr Superintendent of Police Jammu, who were present at the Dharna site, to make it time bound so that guilty are punished as per law, which will serve as deterrent to those testing the patience of people. He also spoke to Director General of Police, J and K and Inspector General Police, Jammu and apprised them of the disturbing situation. He hoped that the police administration will take cognisance of the general complaint with regard to corruption and acts of nepotism that have shattered public faith in the system. “Peoples’ anger against certain specific police officers should be given priority attention”, he added.
The MLA Nagrota urged the DGP to address the concerns of locals over the local police set up and take corrective measures to redress their grievances in this regard urgently.
He hoped that all necessary measures will be taken to book the culprits of this heinous act. This is all the more necessary as some fringe elements are hell bent on vitiating the atmosphere in Jagti in particular, he added.
Rana made a fervent appeal to the people to rise to the occasion, maintain tranquilly and wage a collective resistance against those attempting to divide them on the basis of religion and caste. He said the composite character and spirit has been a shining example of this constituency, which has to be maintained at all costs.
