Rana expresses concern over loss of life, damages caused by windstorm
Seeks ex-gratia, compensation and survey of damages

NAGROTA: Provincial President National Conference and MLA Nagrota Devender Singh Rana on Wednesday expressed concern over loss of life and damages to property and farm produce across the constituency due to late night windstorm followed by heavy downpour and sought immediate relief measures.
“While rushing of Rapid Action Team is imperative to mitigate the difficulties of sufferers, immediate survey should also be undertaken by the concerned agencies, especially the revenue officials to ascertain the extent of losses so that the affected population is compensated”, Rana said after concluding the tour of the constituency.
He expressed solidarity with the families of the outside workforce who lost two young persons, due to natural calamity and sought immediate ex-gratia in favour of next of the kin. He conveyed condolences to these families.
Rana, who toured various areas since wee hours, said that tinned and fibre roof tops of various structures got blown up due to high-speed windstorm and several houses suffered huge damages. He said the Kol Kandoli Temple; the first obeisance destination of the Mata Vaishno Devi bound pilgrims, also suffered damages while the road network across the constituency got disrupted due to gushing Nallah waters.
“The administration should take all necessary measures to restore the utility services like power and drinking water, especially in the wake of Eid celebrations and provide necessary succour to the sufferers”, he said and called for immediate road restoration to facilitate mobility.
The Provincial President said the high speed winds and torrential rains should be taken as an eye-opener to take necessary advance measures to meet exigencies as the monsoon progresses. “This is just the beginning of monsoon and we all should remain cautious and prepared to meet any eventuality”, Rana said, hoping that while the people will maintain utmost caution the government machinery will also generate awareness about do’s and don’ts to save life and property.
He also expressed anguish over the damages caused due to windstorm and heavy rains elsewhere in the region and called upon the administration to gear up for the ongoing monsoon season in a big way.
Meanwhile, Rana met a cross section of people in the Nagrota Assembly Constituency and greeted the people on the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. He hoped the auspicious festival will usher the State to new era of peace and progress.
