SRINAGAR: Stressing upon the stakeholders to evolve a joint mechanism and planning for ensuring peaceful Amar Nath Yatra, the Director General of Police (DGP), K. Rajendra Kumar has said that better synergy among different agencies is pivotal to ensure the Yatra 2015 secure and peaceful atmosphere.
Rajendra was chairing a senior police officers meeting held at police Headquarters (PHQ) here on Monday. The meeting was convened to take stock of the preparedness for Yatra 2015 commencing from 2nd July, 2015.
The meeting discussed security and other related arrangements for the two month long Yatra. Rajendra at the outset of the meeting sought reports from the officers about the deployment of manpower of state police and other security agencies. Arrangements with regard to traffic and other related matters were also discussed in the meeting.
Rajendra received detailed brief from Inspectors General of Police, S.J.M Geelani, A.K Choudhary, Deputy Inspectors General of Police, Nitish Kumar and Ghulam Hassan Bhat regarding the preparedness with regard to security and deployment of manpower in their respective areas of jurisdiction to ensure peaceful Yatra and keep the routes leading to the Holy Cave hassle free and safe for pilgrims.
The DGP stressed upon the officers present in the meeting that while making security arrangements it should be made mandatory that the common masses do not face any inconvenience during their day-to-day activities. He said that traffic should be regulated smoothly on the identified routes of Yatra so that the commuters, particularly the business establishments do not suffer due to traffic jams. He said that people’s cooperation is must for keeping law and order maintained and the field staff should develop sincere relationship with the pilgrims and public to conduct the Yatra smoothly.
The meeting was told that sufficient arrangements have already been put in place to ensure effective communication network on the routes leading to Holy Cave, besides in the interest of the pilgrims proper publicity regarding various facilities available for the Yatries will be made by the concerned agencies. For the safety of pilgrims vehicle checking would be done at the identified places for which sufficient security gadgets are being provided.
Rajendra asked the officers to establish joint control rooms at different places to maintain close coordination among the stakeholders.
He stressed adding that only registered pilgrims should be allowed for Yatra. He said that experience of previous years should be kept under consideration while making the arrangements and if any short coming is noticed, the concerned officers should come up with the proposal so that necessary arrangements are made in advance.
Among others, the meeting was attended by Senior Superintendents of Police, Anantnag and Ganderbal, Abdul Jabbar and Imtiyaz Ismail Parray and other police officers.
