Rahul Gandhi’s denial and acknowledgement of Bharat Mata
JAMMU: The Gandhi scion and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi is not as confused or wayward as he appears to be or pretends to be. He is a clever and, sorry to say, a mischievous politician, hell bent on fragmenting India into bits and pieces. Among other things, he spoke or posted on X about former Prime Minister Dr Manohan Singh, the latest one gives a different spin to the national loss when he posts in Hindi (loose English translation): “The great son of Mother India (Bharat Mata) and the first Prime Minister from the Sikh community, Dr. Manmohan Singh ji has been totally insulted by the present government by performing his last rites today at the Nigambodh Ghat.
Who is Bharat Mata? questions Rahul Gandhi
We raise this slogan called “Bharat Mata Ki Jai’. I raise this slogan; you raise this slogan. But who is this ‘Bharat Mata’?
He was the Prime Minister of India for a decade, during his tenure the country became an economic superpower and his policies are still the support of the poor and backward classes of the country. Till date, respecting the dignity of all former Prime Ministers, their last rites were performed at authorized cremation sites so that every person could have the last darshan and pay homage without any inconvenience. Dr. Manmohan Singh deserves our highest respect and a memorial. The government should have shown respect to this great son of the country and his proud community”.
Here is how his utterances are mischievous: The son of the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, credited with having said when a big tree falls, earth shakes over the massacre and genocide of Sikhs in Delhi in 1984 at the behest of senior Congressmen after the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, he gives a different spin by blaming Narendra Modi Government of not having announced any memorial where the last rites of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh could be performed. He is wrong as the Union Cabinet had already taken a decision in this regard yesterday while condoling the demise of Dr Manmohan Singh. Secondly, he has described Dr Singh as the son of Mother India or Bharat Mata, whose existence itself he had questioned months back when he stoked controversy over his rhetorical question, “What is Bharat Mata?”
The juxtaposition of Rahul Gandhi’s earlier question on Bharat Mata and the latest proclamation speaks volumes about his mental frame. By the way, he or any of the Congress leaders never sought such a type of recognition for President Pranab Mukherjee or Prime Minister P V Narsimha Rao. The mortal remains of Mr Rao were as not reportedly allowed to be taken to the Congress headquarters for Antim Darshan. What hypocrisy and selective treatment. Dr Manmohan Singh lives in the hearts of Indians for his contributions, no matter the politics being played by Rahul Gandhi and his ilk. He and his fellow Congressmen are doing disservice to the great son of Bharat Mata Dr Manmohan Singh by provoking valiant Sikh community against the Modi dispensation.
