Purani Poonch Tigers wins pre-quarter final in Police Martyrs’ T20 Nation salutes brave martyrs of JKP: VC SNU

POONCH: In the ongoing Police Martyrs T20 Cricket League organised by Distrcit Police Poonch in the memory of brave martyrs of Jammu and Kashmir, on Thursday the Purani Poonch Tigers XI won the pre-quarter final match by defeating rival District Police Poonch by five runs played at Degree College Ground, here.
Batting first, the Purani Poonch Tigers XI set a target of 149 runs before the District Police Poonch but the chasing team lost all wickets at 144 runs .
Today’s pre-quarter final match was inaugurated by Dr Shazad Malik, Vice Chancellor Sai Nath University who was specially invited as Chief Guest by the department.
The Twenty-20 cricket tournament is being organised by the District Police in memory of martyrs of JKP under Civic Action Programme.
Over 64 teams and 700 youth from far flung villages of Rajouri and Poonch Districts are participating in the series.
While interacting with the players, senior police officers and others, the VC lauded the District SSP J.S Johar for organising this event which would not only help to highlight the talent of over 700 youth from remote villages but also called it a righteous way to pay homage to the martyrs of the police.
He congratulated the Police Department in its fight against terrorists, to help the civilians under natural calamities and for maintaining regular law and order in the area.
He said nation salutes the brave martyrs of JKP. The Vice Chancellor also said sports and games activities can be best way to tackle rising problem of drug addiction and tendency of unemployed youth towards criminality across the State.
Mujeeb ur Rahman, the DSP Headquarter Poonch presented vote of thanks informing that the Poonch Police shall continue to organise such sports activities in the district.
He thanked the VC for interacting with the players and encouraging them. The prominent people who witnessed the match include Masroor Mir, Additional Superintendent of Police, Mujeeb ur Rehman, Dy. SP Hqrs, S.S Salathia , DySP Giri, DSP District Police Lines, Narjeet Singh, Incharge District Youth Services Sports Officer, Amarjeet Singh S. Narinder Singh, Pintu, Romesh Kumar, Surinder Singh , Davinder Dabour, SHO Poonch Jatinder Raina, SI Sameer, SI Altaf Hussain Shah and Vijay Kumar the Match Refree.
