JAMMU: The victim of the Marble Market shoot-out by a domestic help late last night died while another injured is struggling for life in a serious condition at Government Medical College Hospital here.
The killed victim has been identified as Lajju Ram (55), labourer, who succumbed to his injuries.
Police has booked PSO Badardin, his brother-in-law Naushad-an ousted CRPF jawan- and a 14-year-old domestic help Ishfaq under section 302 CrPC, 4/25 Arms Act.
Badardin, deployed as PSO to Congress leader Zulfalikar, was a frequent vistor to his sister’s house in Channi area. He used to stay there for nights. During his visits, Bardardin’s brother-in-law Naushad, a terminated CRPF jawan, used to take his service rifle AK-47 and acquaint Ishfaq, about its use. He is reported to have kept the young boy abreast about dismantling and assembling on the gun .
Last evening, when Badardin went to his sister’s house at Channi, he left his service weapon on table and went to bathroom. Seizing opportunity, Ishfaq lifted the weapon and fled away.
When police started chasing him, he opened fire, critically injuring a labourer and a police Constable Reyaz Ahmed, PSO to SHO Trikuta Nagar. The PSO is reported to be in a serious condition.
On receiving the news about the death of labourers, his relatives and neighbours blocked the Marble Market road, as a result of which traffic came to halt for over three hours.
On the assurance of compensation to family members of Lajju Ram, the protesters lifted the Dharna. Body of Lajju Ram was cremated late this evening. (Pic on pg 9)
