Provide counselling to disaster victims: SLSA to Psychology students
JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir State Legal Services Authority (J and K SLSA) on Tuesday sought assistance of promising Psychology apprentices to provide counseling to victims of disasters both natural and manmade.
J and K SLSA under the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) Scheme for Legal Services to disaster victims for helping them has approached the Vice-Chancellors of University of Jammu and University of Kashmir through Secretary, J and K High Court Legal Services Committee on the directions of Justice Virender Singh, Judge, High Court of J and K and Executive Chairman, J and K SLSA, seeking the help and assistance of students of psychology.
The Vice-Chancellors have been requested to depute good number of promising students, preferably of psychology to visit relief camps for providing counselling at this critical juncture so that the affected people could show resilience and cope up with the unwarranted situation and release their mental stress besides bailing them out of the post traumatic stress disorders. Migrants of border areas, who are made to leave their hearths along with large chunk of their paddy fields ready for harvesting have been brought under the purview of manmade disaster and require similar counselling to cope up with mental stress. The students will work in co-ordination with the psychiatrists of GMG, Jammu/SKIMS, Srinagar and the core groups headed by district and tehsil level judicial officers constituted by the J and K SLSA.
Directors, Health Services, Government of Jammu and Kashmir, both at Jammu and Srinagar have also been requested to depute psychiatrists on priority basis to go to the places where affected people are made to stay for appropriate counseling.JNF
