Protests continue against PHE, people block road

MENDHAR: In spite of large scale criticism by the people, the PHE Sub Division Mendhar has failed to provide drinking water to the consumers. The residents of village Galutha have not received drinking water for the last 15 days.
The exasperated residents of village Galutha who are without drinking water for the last 15 days, blocked the Mendhar – Surankote Road for four hours and raised slogans against the Junior Engineer, Assistant Executive Engineer Mendhar and Executive Engineer Poonch and asked them to make justice to their huge salaries.
The villagers including Kafeel Khan, Wasim Khan, Nazarat Sudan, Zaheer sudan, Touseef Ahmed, Rameez Sudan and others said that they made number of complaints to the PHE Sub Division incharge Mendhar but he failed to take cognisance of the public grievances and took no action to rectify the breakdown for the last 15 days. They said that they fetch drinking water from long distance with great difficulty.
In view of road blockage which created lengthy traffic jam on both sides of the road, the officer incharge Sub Division Mendhar Asrar Ahmed alongwith SHO Gursai reached the spot and assured the villagers that the broken PHE pipes will be repaired and the water will be supplied to them within 48 hours.
On the assurance of PHE office the villagers lifted Dharna and the movement of traffic resumed.
