KISHTWAR: People of particular community held a protest and also shutdown their business establishment over the death of a youth, who died after alledgelly slipping into george at Bindraban area of Distt Kishtwar in a police chase.
According to reports, a youth died on the spot while his associate received injuries after they slipped into a deep gorge when they were being chased by a police party at Bindraban area, 8KM away from Kishtwar town on Monday evening.
Reports said that both were part of a group of alleged gamblers and were trying to flee during a police raid. After the incident, large number of people including family members and locals led by Imam Jamia Masjid Kishtwar Farooq Ahmed assembled outside the District Hospital Kishtwar,where the body of the deceased Tousif Nawaz (24) son of Mohd Abbas of Malipeth Kishtwar was kept while they were demanding thorough inquiry into the death as the body mentioning found under mysterious circumstances.
Meanwhile, the main eyewitness Irshad Ahmed Sheikh son of Ghulam Hussain Sheikh of Zewar Kishtwar, who also sustained injuries was admitted in the hospital.
While talking to media, Irshad Ahmed Sheikh said that they were playing cards when the police party conducted the raid.
“We fled from the spot and while running towards gorge slipped and fell into a deep ravine,” he added.
Meanwhile, District Development Commissioner Kishtwar , Ghulam Nabi Balwan and SSP Kishtwar Sandeep Wazir assured the protesters for inquiry into the incident.
When connected SSP Kishtwar, informed that we have registered a case FIR No 13/2017 under section 304,337 RPC at Police Station Kishtwar.
“Two police officials including Incharge Police Post Kuleed and a head constable have been placed under suspension,”he added.
After registration of FIR, the protest and shutdown was called off.
