JAMMU: Jammu Police on Tuesday arrested Amar Nath Choudhary, the proprietor of Palm Island Mall, on the orders of Divisional Commissioner Jammu as he failed to clear the electricity bill worth Rs 1.24 crore within the stipulated period.
A Writ of Demand notice was issued against Amar Nath Choudhary, Under Provision of Section 62 of Land Revenue Act by the Special Tehsildar for recovery after they received a representation from the office of the Executive Engineer Electric Division-I, JPDCL, Jammu vide no.ED-1/1857-61 dated May 30, 2022 wherein the Collector (Deputy Commissioner), Jammu was requested to recover the amount of Rs. 1,24,02,102 (One Crore Twenty Four lakhs Two thousand one hundred two only) against recovery of Electricity dues as arrears under the Land Revenue Act., 1996.
Today, soon after his arrest he was produced before the Executive Magistrate.
It is pertinent to mention that he is a notorious land grabber who was arrested earlier also a number of times and has numerous pending cases against him in various courts of J&K and outside. He was previously arrested by the Crime Branch on charges of fraud with investors and developers of Palm Island Mall in 2016.
According to the Crime Branch, a piece of land belonging to owners – Amarnath, his wife Mohini Devi and son Radhey Shyam — was developed into a commercial mall by M/s Riddhi Siddhi Infra projects Pvt Ltd. As per the agreement between them, the sale recovery was to be shared in the ratio 35:65 by them. The duo invited offers from public for the sale of shops and other commercial sites. After the company completed its job, the letter of offer of possession for fitouts was to be issued by the company to respective buyers in January 2015. As the developers being non state-subjects were not able to buy or sell any property, this task was required to be executed by the land owners, who kept delaying the matter by making fake excuses and assurances besides receiving their share of crores without executing any sale agreement, thereby depriving more than 200 investors of their hard-earned money. The land owners in furtherance of criminal conspiracy allegedly hatched with Kaka Ram, with malafide intention and to unsurp the entire property, had misled the buyers and the developer company through deceitful means.
