Promoting Sanskrit is need of the hour: Sham Lal

JAMMU: Shri Kailakh Jyotish Avim Vedic Sansthan Trust organized a grand awareness rally on Tuesday, as part of Sanskrit Month. The event commenced at Government Higher Secondary School Muthi and concluded at Krishna Palace, focusing on promoting Sanskrit and raising awareness about drug de-addiction. The rally also included tree plantation and distribution activities.
The rally featured prominent figures including former Minister Sham Lal Sharma, who served as the Chief Guest, retired Lieutenant General R.K. Sharma, and SP Rural Jammu, Brijesh Sharma, among other dignitaries.
In his address, Sham Lal Sharma emphasized the urgent need to promote Sanskrit, praising its unique and concise style. He highlighted that ancient Sanskrit texts contain vast knowledge, which is extensively researched internationally. Sharma also stressed the importance of combating drug addiction, calling on citizens to stay away from drugs and increase societal awareness about its detrimental effects.
Retired Lieutenant General R.K. Sharma underscored the negative impacts of drug addiction on individuals, families, and society. He commended Mahant Rohit Shastri for organizing the rally to address the growing issue of drug abuse.
Brijesh Sharma discussed how drug addiction undermines physical, mental, and economic well-being and emphasized the need for strong willpower to help affected individuals. He expressed hope that more sections of society would support the initiative to revive Sanskrit’s prominence in Jammu and Kashmir.
Mahant Rohit Shastri announced that Sanskrit Day would be celebrated on Shravan Purnima, August 19, 2024. The Trust had begun Sanskrit Month with the distribution of 5,000 plants on July 23, and planned a series of events to promote Sanskrit throughout the month, culminating on August 19.
The rally saw participation from students of Government Higher Secondary School Muthi, Principal Kiran Sharma, former councilor Suryaprakash Padha, SHO Domana Sushil Chaudhary, and many other local figures and Trust members.
