JAMMU: Prof. Kamaljit Singh, Professor, Department of Chemistry and Dean Faculty of Sciences Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Amritsar, delivered a lecture on the topic, Tryst with Materials, under the aegis of the Chemical Society, Department of Chemistry, University of Jammu.
Prof. Singh emphasised how chemistry is important in designing and synthesis, anti-plasmodial activity, SAR, mode of action and binding with DNA, Heme etc for hybrid anti-malarials.
Prof. Singh discussed that Field Effect Transistors (FETs) are those whose conductivity is controlled by electric filed and when we use organic materials/molecules in FETs, Organic Field Effect Transistors (OFETs) are obtained and these can be used to test the semiconductor properties and it is an emerging field for youngsters to work as its market forecast is expected to cross over $330 billion.
He explained that by combining two anti-aromatic core modified porphyrins and porphycenes, we can make an aromatic porphyrin systems, whose existence can be further confirmed by NMR, UV, DFT and X-ray studies.
In his power-point presentation he described that the amphipolar materials conduct both p-type and n-type current which is carried out by holes and electrons respectively.
Prof Singh elaborated its high time to use non-linear optical polarisation in optical systems rather than electro-optic systems. He also encouraged to the research scholars to have a vision to their research work in view to find the possibilities of synthesising of molecules as non-linear optical materials since they have a potential applications in RFID tags, OLED lightening, solar cells, flexible displays, electro-optics/phtonics. This lecture was specially organised to enhance the vision of research scholars in view to recognise the importance of their research work to find out applications in medicines and other industries.
Earlier, Prof. S.K. Pandey, Head of the Chemistry Department welcomed and introduced Prof. Kamaljit Singh to the audience. The lecture was attended by Prof. Parmajit Kaur (GNDU), Prof. K.K Kapoor, Prof. R.K Bamezai, Prof. H.N Sheikh, Prof. Satya Paul, Dr. D.S Sambyal, Ashwani Kumar, Dr. Amit Kumar Sharma and all the research scholars of the Department.
