Priya Sethi lauds move to promote Beti Bachao-Beti Padao

JAMMU: Minister of State for Education, Tourism and Culture, Priya Sethi, has lauded corporate initiative in promoting female literacy, saying the effort will go a long way in implementing Prime Minister’s Narendra Modi’s mega programme “Beti Bachao-Beti Padao”.
“In this part of the country, where presence of corporate sector is limited, such initiatives are laudable”, the Minister said while inaugurating a musical night held in connection with Beti Bachao-Beti Padao scheme in Jammu. Priya Sethi hoped that the programme will help in achieving the objectives set by Prime Minister in reaching out to the vast majority of girl population and sensitizing the society regarding the issue. She said educating girl child will enable the nation to reach ultimate goal of achieving overall empowerment and emancipation of the people in length and breadth of the country. In a state like Jammu and Kashmir, the minister said such a initiative will further supplement Modi’s efforts of transforming the overall status of women largely. She also emphasised the need of raising massive awareness against female foeticide which still overpowers the society inspite of ushering in a globalised era of technological innovations and advancements. Terming awareness as most important component in success of any scheme, Priya Sethi said that focus is being laid on creating awareness of such reformative programmes in every part of the country. She said that benefits of educating girls permeates the entire family and have far-reaching impacts within the entire society adding that women upliftment is nearly impossible if issues like illiteracy, inequality, sexual harassment and female infanticide are not combated in the right manner. Spelling out broader contours of the scheme, the minister said that it aims at to beget awareness regarding the waning Child Sex Ratio (CSR), apart from perking up the efficiency of several welfare schemes that have been rolled-out for women. Under the scheme, district authorities are effectively monitoring and ensuring that the use of sex-determination tools by families and doctors lead to stringent action by law. She expressed happiness over the success of the scheme saying that apart from generating global headlines, the initiatives under the scheme have started bearing fruit as the level of awareness among the masses to work for girl child upliftment is increasing. On the occasion, famous Sufiana singers Nooran Sisters presented a variety of sufi songs which enthralled the audience. Among others , STATE TIMES, Editor-in-Chief, Raj Daluja, Bureau Chief Times Now Pradeep Dutta, Manager Times of India Praveen Baru besides other members of the group and prominent citizens attended the event.
