JMC gets 50 pc of Rs. 156.75 crore Capex 4 months ahead

JAMMU: Stressing on the principle of minimum government and maximum governance propounded by PM Modi for an improved work culture in government office, the Mayor of Jammu city, Rajinder Sharma on Wednesday said if efforts of the PM can erect new Parliament House building in 2.5 years with an expenditure of Rs. 950 crore, we should also spend the allotted Rs. 70 crore per Ward in shortest possible time to ensure public welfare.
Addressing a jam-packed presser in his office chamber the Mayor informed that the annual Capex outlay (budget) of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) is of Rs. 156.75 crore this year and it has two components-ongoing works and new works.
“Works worth Rs. 99.92 crore are going on in JMC limits and 50 per cent funds for these works have been released to JMC and for the new works also 50 per cent funds have been released to us and in total Rs. 77.11 crore have been released to JMC by the authorities concerned,” he said.
The helmsman of the Urban Local Body (ULB) told reporters that it was for the first time in the history of JMC that funds have been released to the ULB in the ending week of May month while earlier funds were released in the last week of July or in the first week of August which delayed tendering process and allotment of works due to which the tendering got matured by ending October.
“But as this year funds have been made available to us in the ending of May month itself and we have simultaneously started tendering process and hopefully all the tenders shall be uploaded this week itself and by ending June all the allotment of works shall be done and works may start by the first week of July,” the Mayor maintained adding: “With this we will have 10 months to work and no money shall be lapsed like it used to lapse earlier.”
He said that this year entire staff of JMC had started work in advance to achieve this milestone and by the monthof April all the estimates were made and the plans were timely send to the authorities concerned.
“In the year 2018 the total Capex expenditure was Rs. 1.43 crore for all the 75 Wards of JMC, in 2019 it was Rs. 1.63 crore, in 2020 it was Rs. 8 crore, in 2021 it was Rs. 38 crore and in the year 2022 it was Rs. 107 crore and this year we have a target of over Rs. 150 crore,” Mayor Sharma continued.
Expressing confidence he said that they will complete the allotted funds well in time on the developmental works and will even go for interim budget to further take the spree of developmental works to new heights.
The Mayor said that decision making and proper planning by JMC is giving quality and time bound developmental works for the welfare of the public which was absent earlier and thanked the entire rank and file of JMC ranging from Safai Saathis to the Commissioner for the achievement of this milestone and making efforts to usher the Urban Local Body to new era of improved work culture.
He specially lauded the efforts of engineering wing headed by Joint Commissioner (Works) JMC, Sumbria. Chief Accounts Officer was also present in the press conference.
