Press Club of Jammu, Amateur Theatre Group hold play reading session

JAMMU: Press Club of Jammu and Amateur Theatre Group (ATG) jointly organised a Play Reading Session here today in which a new play-script based on two short stories of noted Punjabi writer Khalid Husain and written by Pritam Katoch was presented before the audience.
Welcoming the participants in this interactive session, Ashwani Kumar, President, Jammu Press Club said that it was the endeavor of the Club to widen the scope of its activities into new and hitherto untapped directions in order to become a truly vibrant institution of the State. The collaboration with cultural organisations was a step towards this direction, he said.
Earlier, the Club had also signed a MoU with the Central University of Jammu and was also planning to hold collaborative programmes with various Press Clubs of Pakistan, he informed. He commended the Cultural Committee of Press Club, headed by Abhimanyu Sharma, for conceiving this programme.
Mushtaq Kak, Director of Amateur Theatre Group, said that today’s session was part of their Series ‘Kahani Manch’, in which short stories written by well-known writers of various languages will be transformed into play scripts and performed by the Group. This was the second part of the ongoing effort. In the first part Hari Shankar Parsai’s short story Dus Din Ka Anshan was presented as a play titled Bannu Miyaan Bye Bye under the direction of Ifra Kak, he added.
Pritam Katoch, the writer of the play ‘Ishq Malangi’ said that the script was based on two short stories, originally written in Punjabi by Khalid Husain, titled ‘Ishq Malangi’ and ‘Shadaan Billi Jammu Waali’ and these two stories had been merged to create this play.
Well known Cultural Critic Ravinder Kaul conducted the proceedings of the Session.
