Jammu: President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday expressed grief over the loss of life in the road accident in Udhampur District.
President Pranab Mukherjee condoled the death of 24 people in a bus accident in Udhampur district.
Mukherjee said in his message, “I am saddened to learn that a bus carrying passengers met with an accident on Monday in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir leading to the loss of lives and injury to many. I understand relief operations are currently underway.
“I call upon the State Government and other agencies to provide all possible aid to the bereaved families who have lost their near and dear ones as well as medical assistance to the injured,” the President was quoted in an official release as saying.
Soon after receiving the news of the bus accident, Modi sought details of the mishap, which were given to him by Jitendra Singh, Union MoS PMO, an official release said today.
The Prime Minister expressed grief over the accident and issued instructions to provide necessary help required to the victims. He also conveyed his condolence to the families of the deceased, it said.
“Disturbing news from J&K. Bus accident in Udhampur has saddened me. My thoughts are with families of the deceased. Prayers with the injured,” he tweeted.
“I have asked my ministerial colleague Dr Jitendra Singh to stay in touch with authorities,” he said.
Meanwhile, Governor, N.N Vohra, has expressed sympathy over the loss of precious human lives in a tragic road accident which occurred near Latti in Udhampur District this morning. Conveying his grief to the bereaved families the Governor has prayed for the speedy recovery of all those injured in this ghastly accident.
Spokesperson of the Raj Bhavan conveyed the Governor’s deep regret that, despite the recurrence of fatal road accidents, definitive remedial steps had still to be initiated. In this context, it was recalled that certain decisions had been taken in a meeting of the State Road Safety Council which was held during the recent spell of Governor’s Rule and, apparently, no action had so far been taken to implement them.
Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has expressed deep shock and grief over the death of 24 persons in a bus accident in Udhampur District.
In a condolence message, Sayeed conveyed sympathies to the bereaved families and prayed for eternal peace to the departed souls, an official spokesman said.
Sayeed directed Divisional Commissioner, Jammu to ensure that best possible medical treatment is extended to the injured, the spokesman said.
Former Chief Minister and opposition National Conference (NC) leader Omar Abdullah also expressed profound grief and sorrow over the loss of lives in the accident.
Expressing solidarity with the bereaved families, Omar prayed for peace to the departed souls and for strength to the families to bear their tragic loss.
The NC Working President also prayed for the recovery of those injured and demanded immediate ex-gratia compensation to the families of those who lost their lives and free medical assistance to the injured.
Deputy Chief Minister, Nirmal Singh, has expressed profound grief and shock over tragic bus accident at Latti.
The Deputy CM instructed the Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur to strictly monitor the relief and rescue operation being carried out for these victims to ensure them timely treatment besides other facilities.
He asked the DC to immediately airlift the seriously injured passengers for advanced treatment at GMC, Jammu. He exhorted upon the district administration to make sure that the victims of this tragic road accident get due compensation at the earliest.
The Deputy CM also directed the GMC to extend quality diagnostic and treatment facilities to the injured for their early recovery.
Meanwhile, Minister of State for Finance, Pawan Gupta is camping in the remote Latti village where the tragic road mishap occurred earlier.
Soon after hearing the news about the unfortunate road accident of ill fated vehicle, Gupta rushed to the spot to personally monitor the rescue exercise besides gearing up men and machinery for early and effective relief and rescue measures.
The minister, immediately after reaching the spot, interacted with the rescue team and had a detailed assessment of the status of the loss caused to the bus passengers besides the relief and rescue measures being taken up for the unfortunate victims.
Jammu and Kashmir Congress also expressed its deep shock and grief over the tragic accident in Udhampur, in which 24 people died.
While terming the bus accident very unfortunate, Pradesh Congress Committee President and Former Minister G.A Mir expressed solidarity with the bereaved families and offered his condolences.
He criticised the government for failing to control such accidents and asked it to take immediate measures for streamlining the public transport to ensure safety of passengers.
He also asked the government to provide the injured passengers immediate medicare facilities and compensation to the families who have lost their kith and kin.
Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) also expressed its deep shock on the tragic bus accident.
The party in its condolence message expressed sympathy with the families of the persons died in the accident.
JKNPP Chief Prof Bhim Singh condemned the district administration and the State Government for the accident and said “the old and outdated transport service” needed fresh vehicles and trained drivers.
“It is, corrupt practice, which is responsible for the accident and death of innocent persons,” he said.
Singh in his communication to Governor N.N Vohra has demanded his immediate intervention for the payment of compensation to the families of those killed to the tune of Rs 50 lakh each and Rs 10 lakh each to the injured.
He also demanded all hospitals charges from the government should be waived off.
He demanded a judicial inquiry for the causes of such accident in the state.
