POWERGRID hands over 128-Slice CT Scan Machine to CHC Sankoo under CSR

KARGIL: Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), a Maharatna PSU under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, on Wednesday handed over a 128-slice CT Scan Machine to the Community Health Centre (CHC) Sankoo in Kargil district, Ladakh, under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.

The project includes the provision of the CT scanner along with the construction of the necessary infrastructure, aimed at strengthening healthcare facilities in one of the most remote and deserving regions of Ladakh.
The handover ceremony was attended by Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Kargil; Tarun Bajaj, Executive Director, POWERGRID Northern Region-II; Dr. Kacho Liyaqat Ali Khan, CMO Kargil; Dr. Zahida, BMO Sankoo; Aga Syed Ahmad Rizvi, Councillor LAHDC; Additional Deputy Commissioner, Kargil; senior POWERGRID officials; and the local medical fraternity. Valued at approximately Rs 9.45 crore, the hi-end CT scanner will significantly enhance diagnostic capabilities in the district and adjoining areas, reducing dependency on the single CT machine at Kargil District Hospital.
The facility is expected to save nearly Rs 55 lakh annually and improve emergency care by enabling faster diagnosis during the critical “golden hour.”
The Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor, CMO Kargil, and BMO Sankoo expressed deep appreciation to POWERGRID for the contribution and emphasized continued collaboration to strengthen public health infrastructure in Kargil.
Under its CSR mandate, POWERGRID prioritizes healthcare as a key focus area, particularly in government hospitals across rural and urban regions. In Ladakh, POWERGRID has completed projects worth Rs 11.5 crore, including cold chain equipment for COVID-19 vaccination, water tankers for Degree College Kargil, ambulances and hearse vans in Leh, sanitation projects, and renewable energy initiatives such as solar plants, streetlights, and gasifiers. Community welfare projects, including solar lighting for nomadic tribes, are also supported.
The CHC Sankoo CT Scan project reflects POWERGRID’s ongoing commitment to strengthening healthcare, enhancing emergency response, and supporting sustainable community development across Ladakh.
