Power failure: GMC doctors operate under torch light

JAMMU: The state of affairs in the so-called premier Government Medical College Hospital in Jammu touched a new low on Monday when surgeons were forced to carry out a crucial surgery under torch light as the electricity went off and the power backup up failed.
The logistical emergency created panic in the Operation Theater but Dr Himangshu and his team of medics and paramedics maintained their cool and managed the successful operation under torch light for 40 minutes. The risk was overcome by dint of determination and dedication of the team. No sooner the perplexed doctors came out of the theater, the incident went viral and Facebook kept blinking with posts about the scenario prevailing in the hospital. However, some posts were appreciative of the team of doctors and para-medical staff.
“State of affairs in GMC Jammu….surgeons had to operate under torch light for 40 minutes due to power failure…no back up gen set…no backup power line. The patient on the operation table was at the mercy of the only torch the Health Minister and Principal Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu managed to provide despite repeated reminders about improving the working conditions of the operation theater in emergency wing surgery.
Now what if this patient gets a complication.. what if during this operation in such dim light some instrument or some gauze or a needle was left in the abdomen ….what would you do Mr. Health Minister/ Mr. Principal … SUSPEND A REGISTRAR…?? BETTER SUSPEND YOURSELF ***-***** !”, read a post.
Dr Himangshu immediately posted ‘like’ and shared it with his many friends on Facebook. In reaction to his share on Facebook, many comments landed in his facebook account
Pankaj Kerni wrote in his post, “Don’t blame Health Minister…. He is busy in making money and harassing doctors. He is doing his job of arrogance.”
Tej Krishan Raina posted, A SHAMEFUL ACT ON THE PART OF PRINCIPAL GMC JAMMU.THIS ACT MUST BE CONDEMNED BY ONE *& ALL. CH, LAL SINGH WILL DESTROY MEDICAL SERVICES OF THE STATE.”
Pankaj Kerni retorted back, “One illiterate Health Minister will tell the educated people of the society how to work. Principal GMC should be with Dr.Neeraj Sharma but it seems that he is acting like puppet in the hands of Health Minister.”
