STATE TIMES NEWS
JAMMU: Ridiculing the haughty and supercilious claims made by the State and Central Government on good governance and ‘Achhe Din’, Harsh Dev Singh, Chairman JKNPP and former Minister, lambasted the BJP leadership for subjecting the people to inexpressible miseries and tribulations in the wake of unprecedented power cuts in the region.
“The massive scheduled and unscheduled power cuts had literally made life hell for the people with no takers for their woes and sufferings despite repeated protests, appeals and representations,” Harsh told reporters.
He said that while the mandated leaders of Jammu had given up their moral and political obligations, the people of Jammu especially the aged, ailing and the children were having the nightmarish experiences of the much proclaimed ‘Achhe Din’ of the BJP partnered government.
Harsh, while addressing media, said that the unprecedented power crisis during scorching summer had thrown life out of gear in both urban and rural areas with loudest shrills of people going un-heard and unresponded. He regretted that despite the pathetic plight of the people, the elected representatives had failed to effectively project their concerns.
He deplored that rather than assuring a fair deal to the Jammu people, the BJP MLAs shamelessly agitated in the Assembly for enhancement of their salaries, perks and CDF etc.
Strongly flaying the callous and insensitive attitude of the Power Development Department, he said that the people of Jammu region were made to suffer immense hardships due to scorching heat and soaring humidity with no respite from scheduled and unscheduled power cuts despite assurances.
He regretted that in spite of persistent appeals to government to adhere to scheduled calendar on power supply and the repeated assurances of the government, no action had been taken by the latter thus adding to the sufferings and distress of common man.
He said that the Jammu region was the major sufferer with the government and its ministers remaining mute spectators in the face of a critical and crisis like situation.
Lambasting the government for its highly parochial and biased approach, Singh pointed towards the most obnoxious aspects of power distribution within the State.
Citing figures, he said that the power consumption between Jammu and Kashmir regions is in the ratio of 40:60 respectively but when it comes to revenue realisation Jammu contributes more than 66 per cent of power tariff with barely 34 per cent coming from Kashmir province. He said that the power supply to Jammu region had been further curtailed during 2015-16 and thereafter due to highly prejudicial and callous approach of helmsmen. He vowed to fight such discriminatory tactics tooth and nail and said that the people of Jammu would strongly oppose the highly obnoxious treatment doled out to Jammu region in yet another field of power.
He appealed to the people to join his peaceful Dharna outside the Office of Chief Engineer M&RE (Power Deptt.) Bhagwati Nagar Jammu on 8th August so as to aware the government regarding the unprecedented crisis in the region and untold miseries faced by the people.
Gagan Partap Singh General Secretary Young Panthers and Krishan Lal Senior Party Leader were also present in the press conference.
