Population control

0 89

Dear Editor,
It is not that governments have been unaware of the problems of a growing population or lacked the resources to promote family planning. But the issue has become linked to vote-bank considerations, which have been the bane of the country.
There was a time when governments actively engaged in educating the public about family planning in every nook and corner of the country. Now, vote-bank considerations have taken precedence over national welfare. In fact, the previous UPA regime significantly weakened the Hum do hamare do policy. No doubt, the present government should promote family planning. The only problem is that, when it will try to enforce the policy, it will be accused of being anti-minority. An overall consensus, involving all political parties, is necessary.
