Poor education

Dear Editor,
There is a hue and cry about the quality of education all around, but policies are framed keeping in mind the political gains/mileage. The Right to Education Act has not been scrapped even though it is a stumbling block despite scholars and educationists airing their views about it. The Act says that no student is to be failed till class VIII and admission in the next class is not to be refused. Is this not a mockery of the system? The Punjab board conducted class V exam, for which papers were supplied by the board and paper marking was done by schoolteachers, with the instructions that no one is to be failed even if the answersheet is blank. The results were prepared by schools and were forwarded to the board for compilation and declaration. What is the point of this long exercise? Immediate attention of the state government is required to amend the education policy.
