STATE TIMES NEWS
JAMMU: Giving a serious blow to the tall claims of the government to provide best healthcare facilities to the people of the state, two self-styled cardio
doctors being handpicked by the Health Minister himself, allegedly failed to attend a patient who passed away reportedly crying for treatment at the much-hyped Jammu GMC’s Super-Specialty Hospital on Sunday.
In the aforesaid case, a 60-yr-old patient namely Chuni Lal, son of Anant Lal, resident of RS Pura allegedly breathed his last in the hospital due to gross negligence and lackadaisical attitude of Dr Dharminder and Dr Sanjeev Bhat.
As per family members of deceased, the patient was admitted in Government Medical College & Hospital (GMC&H) on 22nd December, 2016 following cardiac illness and was later shifted to GMC’s Super-specialty Hospital in Ward No. 6 under the supervision of Dr Sanjeev Bhat and Dr Dharminder.
Here it is relevant to mention that Health ministry had created this unit of two doctors after violating all rules.
“Dr Dharminder had to conduct angiography of the patient at the earliest possible time but he postponed it on account of holiday (Sunday) ignoring the critical condition of the patient,” the family of the bereaved patient claimed, adding “He was attending patients in private clinic but delayed our treatment.”
They further informed that the patient had started feeling anxiety and pain after taking dinner on Sunday evening. His son and other attendants went to call the doctors, but to their surprise, there was no doctor or paramedical staff present in the hospital at that time.
Then, they tried to contact the doctors and informed Dr Sanjeev Bhat about the critical condition of the patient but none of them reached the hospital on time, leading to patient’s death.
The family members and attendants protested against the hospital authorities and demanded action against the two self-styled doctors for their negligent attitude towards hapless patients. Matter has been reported to the police.
“If police will not take action we will go to court of law,” alleged the deceased’s family, adding, The Health Minister has constituted a unit of these two doctors only to benefit these doctors in their private practice.
Here it is relevant to mention that most of the patients from Jammu as well as Kashmir want cardio treatment from Dr Sushil Sharma, a renowned cardiologist. Dr Sushil Sharma who post-graduated from PGI Chandigarh is available in hospital day and night as he is non practicising doctor.
Known for his simplicity and dedication towards his patients, most of the cardio patients want consultation only from Dr Sushil Sharma. This irks the doctors from the same department and they forced the Health Minister to constitute a separate cardio unit which consists of Dr Dhaminder and Dr Sanjiv Bhat.
Fifty per cent beds have been given
to these two doctors and fifty to
Dr Suhsil Sharma whereas this is against rules.
“It must be always the choice of the patients or their attendants to consult the doctors of their choice,” said the family members of deceased patient, raising slogans against the Health Minister Bali Bhagat for his interference to give undue benefits to untrained doctors in cardiology department for petty gains at the cost of the lives of poor patients.
