Political gains
Dear Editor,
It’s true that the Darul Uloom Deoband has raised a needless controversy by saying that Muslims should not chant ‘Bharat Mata ki jai’ because the slogan supposedly violates the basic tenets of Islam.
It must be remembered that during independence, many of our freedom-fighters embraced death by chanting, ‘Bharat Mata ki jai’. Even today, our jawans, safeguarding the borders, raise the ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ slogan routinely. Many soldiers have lost their lives for this country.
Raising controversies on this issue is nothing but a malicious attempt by political parties for vote-bank politics. The slogan has nothing to do with ‘god’.
