Police Martyrs Sports Festival begins at Poonch;Police XI wins opening cricket tie

POONCH: Police XI won the opening cricket match beating Nangali Club by 16 runs in the J and K Police Martyrs Sports Festival of district Poonch which got underway at District Police Lines, here. The event is being held under Civic Action Programme of the J and K Police.
Earlier, batting first, Police XI made 166 runs in given 20 overs after winning the toss and batting first. In reply, Nangali Club bowled out for 150 runs to lose thee tie by a margin of 16 runs.
Other disciplines included in this sports festival are Kabaddi, Tug of War, Wrist Holding (Beeni Pakadna), Stone lifting (Bughdar Uthana), Cross-Country and Kho-Kho.
Earlier, the competition was declared open by District Development Commissioner (DDC) Poonch, MH Malik while Commandar of 93 Infantry Brigade of the Army, AS Pendharkar was Guest of Honour. Speaking to the gathering, organising secretary and SSP Pooch, Jatinder Singh Johar said that iin addition to their bounden of duties, J and K Police also fulfill its social responsibilities for overall development of the society, especially youth. The SSP also disclosed that under Civic Action Programmes J&K Police is also building assets for the community and highlighted the construction of washrooms for girls in various schools of the district.
The opening function was attended by a large number of locals.
