JAMMU: The Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) Front on Friday sought disbursement of compensation announced by the Central Government for the displaced community members.
A large number of refugees from Mirpur, Bhimber, Kotli, Deva, Watala, Chamb, Nah, Manawar and Muzaffarbad led by Front’s President Rachhpal Singh assembled at Exhibition Ground near Press Club and held a protest amidst slogans against the government.
Speaking on the occasion, Chib alleged that the present government is using the delaying tactics in the process of disbursement of compensation package among the DP families of 1947, 1965 and 1971 Indo-Pak wars which was sanctioned by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi in October, 2015.
Moreover, he said, the BJP-PDP alliance has adopted a methodology of disbursing the economic package which has potential of corruption by the officers of Provincial Rehabilitation and Revenue Office.
“The Revenue Department distributed cheques worth Rs 5.5 lakh each to some of the DPs of 196o without mandatory notification in violation of law of the land,” he said adding that the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and Deputy Chief Minister Dr. Nirmal Singh distributed the cheques to the beneficiaries on 12th December, 2016 and asked others to submit their claim-applications after proper notification.
“This action of the State Government leaves no doubt in the minds of common man that there is something wrong in the process adopted by the bureaucracy. It will give free hand to the authorities to issue cheques of economic package on their own terms and indulge in corruption,” he said.
The POJK refugees demanded comprehensive final settlement which consists of economic, social and political package which was recommended by Joint Parliamentary Committee, he asked.
The front warned of agitation if the Central and State Governments continues to discriminate with the community.
