JAMMU: Public Health Engineering (PHE) workers held protest in support of their issues and problems being faced by them which have been overlooked by the successive governments. A large number of PHE workers and employees under the banner of Water Works (PHE) Employees Association and led by Shiv Kumar Sharma, State President of INTUC and also the Provincial President of the Association, assembled in the PHE Complex, BC Road, here and shouted slogans against the PHE authorities, blaming it for ignoring their genuine demands. Sharma, while expressing deep concern and dismay over the apathetic attitude of the concerned authorities for their pending demands, said that the attitude of the State Government towards the workers who have not been paid their pending wages was condemnable. He demanded that the State Government should release the pending wages and regularise all the daily wagers who completed seven years in service. Their demands include release of pending pay of daily wagers/CP workers, regularisation of daily wagers/CP workers, DPC meeting of all cadres, implementation of Minimum Wages Act, revision of sanctioned strength of the department, meeting shortage of staff, change of designation as per- nature of job being performed by the workers, payment to those who engaged in-lieu of land donated to the department, implementation of Seventh Pay Commission and enhancement of minimum wages to Rs. 450 per day.
