JAMMU: Police on Friday foiled protest march of daily wagers, contractual and others towards the Civil Secretariat, here.
Demanding regularisation of their service and release of pending wages, a large number of PHE daily wagers, ITI trained, contractual workers, who are on Kaam Chhoro Hartal for the last 39 days, today took out a protest rally towards Civil Secretariat which was foiled by police near Indira Chowk.
Traffic on the main busy road was also disrupted for some time due to protest.
“No steps have been taken to fulfill our genuine demands, including regularisation of services of daily wagers. The government has maintained a silence on the issue, while there has been anger among daily wagers,” Tanveer Hussain, State President of the Association said.
Protesters alleged that despite repeated assurance to regularise all the daily wagers and contractual workers who have completed seven years in service, nothing has been done till date.
They accused the BJP of not keeping their pre-poll promise to redress the grievances of the daily wage PHE workers.
Threatening to intensify their agitation, the employees demanded immediate order for regularisation of their service before the Darbar Move.
