PG women bag inter-college Archery trophy

Nargis Kahtoon of Science College emerges best 
JAMMU: The combined side of Post Graduate (PG) Departments lifted the maiden Archery trophy in the inter-college competitions, organised by the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu (JU) on the campus ground here on Wednesday.
On the basis of performance in both men and women sections, Nargis Khatoon of GGM Science College was adjudged Best Archer of the Competition. Another archer, Manju Mandla of Government College for Women (GCW) Gandhi Nagar named second best, considering her performance.
Earlier, the participating teams interacted with Vice Chancellor of JU, Prof M.P.S Ishar, who took an interest in introducing archery in the annual inter-college competitions. After Fencing, Archery was the second discipline which has been introduced in the annual calendar of activities of JU.
Speaking to the female archers, Prof Ishar said that archery has great prospects at the national level. He asked the affiliated colleges of the university to introduce the discipline at the college level so as to produce talented stuff for a healthy annual competition.
Earlier, Director, Sports and Physical Education, Prof Dhian Singh Bhau advised the players to work hard with an aim to make their presence felt at the inter-university competition. He thanked the secretary of J and K Archery Association, Sunil Sharma for extending a helping hand in the successful conduct of the event.

VOLLEYBALL: Meanwhile, in the ongoing inter-college women’s volleyball competition, the Post Graduate (PG) Departments shall take Government College for Women (GCW) Gandhi Nagar in the final on Thursday at 10:00 AM on the campus grounds, here.
Earlier, in the semifinals, played on Wednesday, GCW Gandhi Nagar outplayed Government Degree College (GDC) Kathua in straight sets of 25-07, 25-13, 25-19 while PG defeated SPMR College of Commerce in similar fashions 3-0 (25-11, 25-15, 25-19).
Today’s matches were officiated by the technical penal including Amit Sharma, Naseeb Singh, Prableen Kour and Charanjit Singh under the supervision of Volleyball Coach, Vikas Karlopia.

FOOTBALL: The combined side of Post Graduate (PG) Departments of Arts on Wednesday sailed into the quarterfinals of inter-college men’s football tournament underway on the campus ground, here.
In the pre-quarterfinal, played today, PG Arts beat GDC Kathua by a solitary goal. The only goal scored came through Anurag Singh in the 50th minute of the game.
Meanwhile, other three scheduled matches of pre-quarterfinals stages either ended in walkovers or both the teams could not report the organisers. Today’s match was officiated by the technical penal including Dr Brij Baloria, Ricky, Gagan Kumar and Taranpal Singh.
