MENDHAR : Citizens of Mendhar and villagers from the adjoining area, held a protest against Power Development Department (PDD) and Public Health Engineering Department (PHE) for non-availability of power and drinking water in the border area of district Poonch.
The protesters under the leadership of President Beopar Mandal Parveen Sahany and President Tata Sumo Union Kafeel Ahmed Khan blocked the Mendhar – Jammu Road for two hours. They raised slogans against the senior officers of PDD and PHE for making tall promises to the public when the ground reality regarding their service is empathic. They said that their children who are taking the annual examination are unable to prepare in the absence of power. At the same time the non-availability of the drinking water forces the people to fetch water from distant places during this chilly cold”, they added.
Tehsildar Mendhar Mohd Rafiq along with SDPO Surinder Choudhary reached the spot and pacified the protesters later road was opened. They assured the protesters that their demand will be projected to the authorities at district level asking them to provide power and water at the earliest.
