JAMMU: Large number of locals including women and children on Wednesday protested against Speaker J and K Assembly, Kavinder Gupta for not addressing the grievances of people of his constituency.
People of Bazigar Basti Bahu Fort, Jammu assembled at main road Bagh- E-Bahu and raised slogans against Speaker, who happened to be local MLA of the area.
They main road was also shut for all kinds of traffic as irked locals, burnt tyres as part of protest and traffic was diverted towards by-pass Narwal Road.
Protesters alleged that they were facing acute shortage of water and electricity for the past many days, while PDD and PHE Departments have failed to solve their problem, in spite of repeated requests.
“Our main power transformer got burnt three days ago due to which our power and water supply got snapped,” a protester maintained. He added, “We have apprised the authorities including MLA Kavinder Gupta regarding our miseries but they are not paying any heed to our demands”.
They said, “We elected Kavinder Gupta over Congress leader Raman Bhalla with lots of hope but since election and formation of government, MLA Gupta never listened to peoples’ problem,” an aggrieved supporter of BJP said. He added, “I personally regret that I voted for BJP, and particularly for Kavinder Gupta, who even does not know the proper geography of the area.” “Our road and streets have been broken, water pipes which delivered good amount of water during Bhalla’s tenure is now not able to cater the needs of people, the transformers which were earlier used to be replaced within 24 hours now are not even removed after four days,” he regretted.
Even after four hours of protest no movement has been seen from the government to assure the protesters of suitable action.
