SOPORE: An eight year old girl hailing from a remote area of Sopore was suffering from Gall Stone disease. She was treated successfully by performing Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy at Sub Division Hospital (SDH) Sopore. This is for the first time that pediatric laparoscopic surgery was started at the SDH Sopore. The team of doctors who performed surgery included Dr. Majid Mushtaq (Laparoscopic Surgeon), Dr. Mushtaq Ahmed Dar (Consultant Surgeon), Dr. Ishtiyaq Wani (Consultant Anesthetist) and Dr. Samina Akhter (Anesthetist). They were assisted by Dr. Amjad Ali Shah and Mohammed Shafi Wani, Showkat Ahmad and Shams-ud-Din. The patient has been discharged from the hospital.
It is pertinent to mention here that laparoscopic surgeries are being done on regular basis since 2012 at SDH Sopore. BMO Sopore Dr Syed Masood said, “Till date, 320 laparoscopic surgeries have been performed. The significance of performing laparoscopic surgeries at District and Sub District Hospitals is that patients are availing quality health care at their doorsteps and lessening down the burden on tertiary care hospitals”.
