Srinagar: PDP on Tuesday expelled its Leh district chief Tashi Gyalson from its basic membership for signing a memorandum submitted to the Union Home Minister demanding Union Territory status for Ladakh, saying that under no circumstances will it endorse any move to divide the state.
The head of PDP’s Disciplinary Committee Abdul Rehman Veeri expelled Gyalson for violating the party’s whip, a party spokesman said in a statement.
“Gyalson signed the memorandum demanding Union Territory status for Ladakh which is against the policies of PDP,” he said.
The spokesman said PDP believes in unity and any move aimed at dividing the state on regional or religious lines will only be an unfortunate development, and under no circumstances will the party endorse any such divisive move.
“People of different faiths, ethnicity and languages live cordially in J&K since ages. PDP believes in taking everyone together to find a lasting solution to our problems,” he said.
The spokesman said people are still suffering the fallout of the partition and any further division of Jammu and Kashmir will only add to the problems of the state and region.
Later, according to STATE TIMES, PDP workers of Leh and Nubra assembly segments threatens to resign enmasse if party high command doesn’t reconsider the decision of expelling District President Tashi Gyalsan from the party.
UT demand is the real aspiration of the people of Ladakh and Tashi Gyalsan signing it was justified, party workers endorsed.
All political, religious and social leaders of Leh had together and signed one memorandum seeking UT status for Ladakh.
Ahead of Rajnath Singh’s visit to Leh PDP high command had warned district party president of Leh for consequences if he signed memorandum seeking UT. All political party leaders of Leh, including BJP, NC, Congress, PDP and NLM, decided to demand UT in one voice keeping aside party ideologies and differences come what may. They did it so which provoke PDP high command for disciplinary action against Tashi Gyalson. Opposition National Conference has also issued a show cause notice to its district president for Leh Sonam Wangdus for signing the memorandum which was submitted to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh.
“NC General Secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar has issued a show cause notice to Wangdus asking him to explain in 72 hours the reasons for signing the memorandum,” a party spokesman said. “This is against the basic policy of NC and threatens the state’s unity. The party has never compromised with its principles and policies,” he said. Meanwhile, PDP workers of Leh and Nubra assembly segments will resign enmass if party high command doesn’t reconsider the decision of expelling District President Tashi Gyalsan from the party.
This was decided by party workers in Leh following PDP high command’s decision of expelling Tashi Gyalson for signing the joint memorandum submitted to Home Minister Rajnath Singh in Leh on Monday seeking UT status with legislature for Ladakh.
