Srinagar: Ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today condemned the attacks in Sopore township of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, saying such killings do not serve any purpose except creating personal tragedies.

“PDP expresses deep shock at the loss of another precious life to senseless violence. Such killings do not serve any purpose except creating personal tragedies,” party general secretary Rafi Ahmad Mir said here.

A shopkeeper was shot dead by suspected militants today in Sopore, in fourth civilian killing in a week and second since yesterday, police said.

Terming today’s incident as an act of “extreme cowardice”, the PDP leader said innocent killings have no place in a civilised society.

Mir said the unending cycle of death and destruction should stop in Kashmir to allow it to grow and progress.

“It is sad that yet another precious life has been lost to the vicious cycle of violence in Kashmir. Our party strongly condemns such incidents. The re-occurrence of such dastardly incidents is unfortunate which have till now only devastated families and increased the number of orphans and widows in the society,” he said.
