STATE TIMES NEWS
VIJAYPUR: Former Minister and JKPCC General Secretary Manjit Singh on Tuesday accused government of dividing communities for the sake of power. “Both the ruling PDP and BJP in Jammu and Kashmir have been playing with the fire by dividing two major communities on communal lines,” alleged Manjit Singh, while speaking before the party workers.
He was chairing a meeting of party workers at Vijaypur on the occasion of May Day where he highlighted the suffering of the labour class and unending suffering in view of lack of Government’s support to the poor section of society. Former Minister Manjit Singh said that BJP is heading for different direction in Jammu and Kashmir and PDP is going towards other direction even as both are in coalition and ruling the state.
“Unfortunately, lack will of doing developmental work but want to continue their rule on the bases of divide and rule,” he alleged, further adding that “Earlier these parties were dividing the regions i.e. Jammu region against Kashmir and Kashmir against Jammu which has created wedge and instead, of bridging the gaps and mistrust, both the alliance partners have started allegedly raising communal passions.”
He said that the Jammu and Kashmir is a sensitive state and both the alliance should understand, they have put the future of the State at stake for achieving their political gains.
“Congress will not allow such elements to play their role and divide the society. Whether it was fight to get freedom from British rule in India or Congress rule in the Country, the party has always preferred unity among the two major communities,” he said.
He said that Congress party will never allow such a divisive politics in the State, which is against the national interest and unity of the society. Time has come, when civil society, traders and other bodies should join hands and isolate such elements who are bent on creating trouble in the peaceful society, he hoped. He said that the Government has failed to deliver on ground and now it has adopted such a cheap tactics.
Similarly, he came down heavily on the Government with regard to the exploitation of labour class in Jammu and Kashmir, especially in Samba district.
“The labourers in industrial unite and other areas are unorganized and they are allegedly forced to do work for 12 to 14 hours with mere Rs 5000 to Rs 6000 per month,” he alleged.
The former Minister said that the Government should shun the anti-labour class policies and frame a labour friendly policy for their economic and social welfare. “There is no job security to the labour class. They do work in harsh conditions. Their salaries are hardly hiked. They work in such a inhuman conditions which damages their health system,” he said. He recalled the sacrifices made by the labour class on May Day and hoped that the Government will learn and do work for the poor section of the society.
