PDD casual workers take out protest rally

JAMMU: On fifth day of its continuous strike, the All J and K Casual Labourers Union took out a protest rally from the Office of Chief Engineer EM and RE Wing, here on Friday.
Shouting slogans in support of their demands, the protesting casual labourers assembled near the Office of Chief Engineer EM and RE Wing, here and held a demonstration.
They were demanding release of wages, regularisation policy and insurance for the workers.
The union leaders threatened to further intensify their agitation and come on the streets if the government does not fulfill all their genuine demands.
The demonstration was held under the leadership of State President, J and K Casual Labourers Union, Akhil Sharma who alleged that despite various requests made by them the government has turned deaf ear to their genuine demands for which they are entitled.
Presently 3,232 casual/need based workers are serving in different divisions of EM and RE Wing, Jammu amongst which a good number of workers have rendered more than seven year of their continuous services at their respective places of posting, he said.
They demanded release of pending wages from Wages Head, regularisation and insurance policies for workers, filling up the 5,000 post which was sanction in the year 2010, ending the discrimination with Jammu province workers and compensation to dead/handicapped workers.
The demonstration was also addressed by other leaders of the union, who appealed to the casual labourers to remain united for taking the ongoing struggle to a logical conclusion.
