JAMMU: The strike launched by the casual and need based workers of the Power Development Department (PDD) entered the 15th consecutive day here on Monday.
Raising slogans in support of their demands at the Office of Chief Engineer, Bhagwati Nagar, the protestors urged the government to frame regularisation policy for all causal workers who have completed five years of service.
Later they took out rally towards Convention Centre, to meet with the All Party Delegation (APD), which was foiled by heavy contingent of police deployed there.
They wanted to submit a memorandum of demands to APD with a request for forwarding the same to the Prime Minister to redress their issues.
“It is very shameful that delegation met those who are responsible for throwing stones and disturb the environments in the Valley, but they have no time to meet with the casual/need based workers of Jammu,” State President, J and K Casual Labourers Union, Akhil Sharma alleged.
They demanded release of pending wages from Wages Head, regularisation and insurance policies for workers, filling up the 5,000 posts which were sanctioned in the year 2010, ending the discrimination with Jammu province workers and compensation to dead/handicapped workers.
They appealed to the delegation to announce the package in favour of Jammu and Kashmir State workers, so that they fulfill the requirements of families.
Other members present were Ashish Kumar, Shamsher Kumar, Ashwani Kumar, Shesh Kumar and Sham Sharma.
