PCC condoles demise of Shafi Qureshi

JAMMU: A condolence meeting was held here today at PCC HQ Shaheedi Chowk, Jammu to pay tributes to veteran Congress leader and former PCC President Mohd. Shafi Qureshi, who passed away yesterday in Delhi.
The meeting was presided over by President JKPCC Ghulam Ahmed Mir and attended by senior leaders of PCC, DCC and frontal organisations of the party.
Paying rich tributes, the speakers remembered the contribution of Mohd Shafi Qureshi for his long time in public life in which he held various positions including Union Minister and Governor of Bihar and Madhya Pradesh besides Chairman of National Minority Commission apart from these, President of Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress for two times and twice elected as Member Lok Sabha from Anantnag.
Mir described Qureshi as a visionary leader, able administrator and man of conviction and self-determination with strong commitment to the ideology of secularism of Congress Party.
“It was Qureshi who was the one of the few founder members of Congress in Jammu and Kashmir and launched the membership drive in Maisuma Mohalla in Kashmir,” Mir said.
Sham Lal Sharma, Mula Ram, Raman Bhalla, Aijaz Ahmed Khan, Jahangir Mir and Gulzar Wani paid rich tributes while remembering his contribution and principle of his life.
Two minutes silence was observed to pray for eternal peace to the departed soul and to give strength to the family to bear this great loss.
