SRINAGAR: National Conference core group is meeting in the summer capital on Tuesday to decide the candidates for by-polls to two parliament seats of Srinagar and Anantnag in the Kashmir valley.
The main opposition in the Legislative Assembly will also decide whether to go alone or make seat sharing arrangement with Congress to fight against PDP.
Quoting National Conference General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar, a Srinagar based news agency reported that the core group, comprising, among others, Farooq Abdullah, Working president Omar Abdullah, senior leaders Abdul Rahim Rather, Mian Altaf, Ali Muhammad Sagar and other few leaders, will sit tomorrow to discuss the strategy on contesting by-polls next month.
“All matters including candidates, seat sharing arrangement with Congress among others will be discussed,” Sagar told the agency.
Meanwhile, Pradesh Congress President G A Mir said that the state unit has sent its consensus to the party high command which will take a final decision.
“We have kept both options, contesting alone or seat sharing with National Conference, before the party high command. Seat sharing arrangement with National Conference will be more appreciable,” Mir told the agency. “In case the seat sharing arrangement matures, then NC party high command and our party high command in New Delhi will take a final decision,” Mir said, adding that within two days the “picture will be more clear”.
JKPCC held a meeting of its leaders in Jammu where it discussed by-poll strategy including seat sharing among others.
