Parking woes
Jammu has to narrow down as far as growth of vehicle population is concerned to bring in the woe of parking anywhere one goes. The way vehicle population is growing a day will come roads will turn into parking slots. The irony of the situation is that vehicle population has outwitted the expansion of roads and other infrastructure. Most of the projects are caught in the web of ‘Babucracy’ and the subsequent delay in execution. Political environment makes the decision-making somewhat indifferent to the people’s need and more conveniently these have become means to meet the political ends. Whatever has been developed it undermines the quality. The living example of fourth bridge over river Tawi, which gets washed away in every rain and during the rest of the period it remains under repair. Chief Minister Mehabooba Mufti had recently visited site and seeing the snail-pace repair work she had asked for speedy completion. So far so good the story remains in coma with no further progress except some more mud placed on the stretch to make road-users’ life miserable. As far as parking space is concerned it has become a routine affair with lanes and roads packed with parked vehicles on both sides leaving narrow space for others leading to unwanted traffic jams. Who to be blamed for such a chaos? In so far as violators are concerned they wdon’t care for others and park vehicle as per their convenience. State Government and local bodies should work out a plan to overcome this growing nuisance and utilise the space available for parking which would help in keeping the city clean.
