JAMMU: Wrestler Pamma of Derra Baba Nanak in Punjab lifted ‘First Jhiri Kesari 2016’ title by defeating Tejveer of Rohtak Haryana in a tough fight for the first Malli bout that lasted for 11 minutes here at Jhiri.
Dangal was organised by J and K Indian Style Wrestling Association in association with Youth Club Kalayanpur under the overall supervision of President J and K Indian Style Wrestling Association Shiv Kumar Sharma, Vice President Ram Paul Sharma and Organiser Deep Raj.
Former Minister and MLA Sukhnandan Choudhary was the Chief Guest on the occasion. He distributed prizes among the winners. Joint Secretary J&K State Sports Council Shiv Kumar Sharma who is also the Treasurer Indian Style Wrestling Association of India and President Senior Citizens Welfare Forum Katra presided over the function.
SHO Kana Chak Rakesh Singh Jamwal, Prem Choudhary, Chairman J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association, Advocate Sanjit Bavouria and retired SP and Treasurer J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association P.R. Sharma and Sarpanch Jhiri Ashok Mahajan were the Guests of Honour.
Prominent persons who were present on the occasion included Sarpanch Reumat Ali, Sarpanch Babishan Singh, Naresh Kumar (Pappu Lakri), Om Parkash Verma, Mulk Raj Sharma and Retired JE Surinder Sharma.
Around 45 bouts were played in the daylong Dangal. Ram Paul Sharma and Deep Raj sponsored the event.
Winner of Ist Malli was awarded with Rs. 31,000 along with traditional Gurj (Gadda) and Patta by Sukhnandan Choudhary, Shiv Kumar Sharma, Ram Paul Sharma and Deep Raj while runner-up Wrestler Tejveer was awarded with Rs 20,000 by Naresh Kumar, P.R. Sharma, Rakesh Kumar Jamwal and Sanjit Bavouria.
The second main bout was won by Bupinder of Ajnala Punjab who defeated Ishaq (Lalhi) of Bajrangi Akhara Jammu. Winner Bupinder was awarded with Rs 18,000 while runner-up Lallu awarded with cash prize of Rs 13,000. The third main bout was won by Manna of Zarikpur Chandigarh who defeated Farooq of Sarore. The fourth bout was won by Navpreet of Khanna who defeated Kaka of R.S. Pura Jammu. The fifth bout was won by Nisar of Doda of J&K Police who defeated National Champion Wrestler Vikas of Khanna Punjab.
J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association members and technical officials including Ram Paul Sharma (Vice-President), Naresh Kumar (Pappu Lakri), Deep Raj, K.K. Sharma, Pawan Sharma, Om Parkash Verma, Mulk Raj Sharma, Raj Hussian, Sat Paul, Tulinder Kumar, Prem Kumar, Kulbir Singh and Murli Dhar (Munna) helped in making the event successful.
Wrestler Manna of Zarikpur, Chandigarh was declared Best Wrestler. He was awarded with 5 Kg Desi Ghee and Mata Ki Chunni.
Result: – Ajay Sharma of Landen Power House Udhampur beat Dinesh of Chandigarh, Gurmail of BSF of Chandigarh beat Akram of Jammu, Akram of Chowadi beat Dalier Khan of Nargada, Kulbir Singh of Kot Bhalwal beat Sonu of Zarikpur Chandigarh, Roshan Lal Sharma of Muthi of J&K Police beat Narinder of Ajnala, Amir Khan of Bajrangi Akhara Jammu beat Ramesh Kumar of Rohtak, Rajesh Sharma of J&K Police beat Lakha of Punjab and Murad Ali of Domana Akhara beat Salman Khan of Udhampur.
