Pakistan’s Army just cannot tolerate democratic regimes
Dear Editor,
Imran Khan and clergy Tahir ul-Qadri are trying to create a political crisis to gain power by hook or crook. This is nothing but blackmail with overt or convert connivance of the only powerful institution in Pakistan – the army. Since 1958, when Field Marshal Ayub Khan captured power, the army has been running the political circus of Pakistan. In fact, M.A Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan, had initiated such blackmail with his Direct Action Day to demonstrate the Muslim League’s muscle-power. This is the foundation story of Pakistan where deception with India is the most patriotic duty, at least of the Army there. The state is based on double-standards, and violence in public life has become normal. The Pakistani Army is notorious for fomenting trouble against democratic regimes.
