Overloading to be dealt seriously: DIG Traffic

JAMMU: DIG Traffic Range, Jammu, Ashkoor Ahmad Wani on Saturday informed that the main cause of accidents are overloading in the buses especially in hilly terrain/rural areas and this menace shall be dealt seriously.
While chairing a meeting of bus unions member, the DIG Traffic said that the aim and object of the meeting was to convoy the message to all the unions over the menace of overloading particularly in buses due to which fatal accidents took place recently in which number of previous lives have been lost and score of people injured in the accidents.
All the members of various unions have been told that menace of the overloading shall be dealt seriously and they should co-operate with the traffic/local police in this drive.
During the meeting, traffic congestion and other traffic related problems especially in Jammu City have been discussed threadbare and number of measures that were taken to redress the grievances of the general public.
In the meeting SSP Traffic, Jammu, Dy. SP Traffic, City North, Jammu besides the Presidents of Kathua, R.S Pura and Chhamb Bus Unions were present.
In the meeting, it has been told to all the participants that there is no checking of vehicles on the National Highway except at Lakhanpur and Nagrota. In case, any checking apart from specified traffic Nakas is conducted on NH by any Traffic Police Personnel, the same shall be communicated on the telephone Nos. 0191-2582909, 0191-2562299, 0191-459048 and 9419147732.
The DIG also informed that in the last ten days, about 1,235 Challans have been done for crossing the traffic signal and a fine of Rs. 3,02,150 has been realised besides 1,439 Challans have been done without crash helmets and a fine to the tune of Rs. 1,65,100 has been realised.
