RAJOURI: Indifferent attitude of Traffic Police towards keeping a check on traffic defaulters’ has encouraged local transport operators plying passenger vehicles between Rajouri and Thannamandi to indulge in overloading causing inconvenience to general public besides becoming probable ground of a fatal mishap.
It is unfortunate that despite recent fatal accidents due to overloading in the district, the employees of Traffic Department has not come out of deep slumber allowing transport operators to continue with their spree of careless ferrying of passengers putting their lives at risk.
Interacting with STATE TIMES, Faizan Shabir Khan, a local resident alleged that Traffic Police personnel are more interested in illegal gratification in the name of ‘Entry’ rather than controlling the menace of overloading. He also alleged that transporters were charging fare without following the prescribed rate list.
He also alleged that despite repeated complaints to Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO), transport operators on Rajouri-Bawali Route have indulged in overcharging, defying the rate list issued by the Transport Commissioner.
