Over 200 sheep die after consuming rotten grain

Mathura: Two hundred and twenty-five sheep coming from Rajasthan have been killed in village Mudseras here after consuming rotten grain from hailstorm-hit fields, a medical officer said today.

“73 sheep in serious condition, were saved by a team of doctors sent to the affected area, however 225 sheep died yesterday due to rumen acidosis (a metabolic disease of cattle) before the team arrived in the village,” Dr. S.K.

Mullick, Chief veterinary officer said.

He has advised the farmers not to gaze cattle in rain hit area where fodder and grain has been hit by fungus due to incessant rain.

“Before giving the hay to cattle, the farmers should first dry it up and then wash it,” he added.

Hundreds of sheep from border Rajasthan village Pali came on Thursday for grazing to village Mudseras, a village hit by untimely incessant rain.

For further preventive action, a team of doctors is camping in the village, he concluded.
