Outstanding Media Person 2018: Abhimanyu Sharma gets J&K ‘State award’

JAMMU: Senior journalist and former vice president Press Club Jammu (PCJ) Abhimanyu Sharma on Friday received ‘State Award for Outstanding Media Person’ for achieving excellence in Jammu and Kashmir.
He was presented this prestigious award, comprising a gold medal, citation and a cash award of Rs 51,000 by the J&K government in a simple ceremony at the Civil Secretariat, Jammu this morning.
The Jammu and Kashmir government had announced the award for Abhimanyu Sharma on the eve of Republic Day in 2018.
Veteran journalist, who earned his name in the profession at the state and national level with his integrity and excellence in his journalistic pursuits, has an experience of more than three decades to his credit in both electronic and print media.
He has remained associated with Dainik Jagran (J&K), one of the largest circulated Hindi dailies in India, as its distinguished J&K Editor and General Manager for over two decades. In a span of over three decades of his professional journalistic career, Abhimanyu has worked with major publishing houses of J&K including Kashmir Times, besides his successful foray in electronic media, which too spanned around a decade, covering diverse range of subjects including politics and defence.
He was part of the Indian Journalists’ delegation that accompanied the then President Pratibha Patil to her official visits to Mangolia and Korea in 2011. He also visited Singapore with the top Indian official delegation. He was also a founder member of Press Club of Jammu where he served as the vice president of the Management Committee from 2014 to March, 2022.
Abhimanyu attended All India Editors’ Conference in 2009 in Srinagar and again in 2012 in Puducherry. He has also worked as a member of the Advisory Committee of Legislative assembly and Legislative Council.
A well known literary name, Abhimanyu has also been associated with various social and literary organisations, including Sanskriti Manch, Jammu (SMJ) as president and Rashtra Bhasha Prachar Samiti as vice-president, at the state and national level.
