SRINAGAR: An outreach programme was conducted by Puja Jindal Commissioner of Income Tax (Exemptions), Chandigarh along with Surinder Kaur Waraich Joint CIT(E), Chandigarh; Sahil Singh ACIT(E), Chandigarh and Vikas Sharma, ITO, Jammu and Manoj Kumar ITO (HQ) at Srinagar.
It was attended by representatives of various NGOs namely Elfa International, Human Welfare Voluntary Organisation, Sky Trust, Yateen Foundation, Kashmir Education Initiative and J&K Development Action Group; office bearers and members of CA Association and Kashmir Income Tax Bar Association(KITBA) hailing from different parts of Kashmir.
In this outreach programme, provisions of Income Tax Act related to registration, exemption, latest amendments, penal provisions for violation, Supreme Court Judgements etc. with respect to Charitable and Religious Trusts and NGOs were discussed.
As part of this outreach programme grievances of taxpayers related to registrations and refunds along with queries on various procedural and legal issues were also taken up for discussion.
Further, specific issues related to NGOs such as anonymous donations, Section 80G approval, crowd funding, sensitization of NGOs about terror financing etc were discussed.
The programme proved to be beneficial as it provided a common platform for Income tax authorities and the assesses to understand their respective problems and take appropriate measures to avoid unnecessary litigation.
