UDHAMPUR: 40th Computer Point District Udhampur and Open Chess Championship 2016 concluded on Tuesday with prize distribution ceremony held here.
The event was conducted by District Udhampur Chess Association under the aegis of All J and K State Chess Association affiliated to All India Chess Federation. All matches were played under International FIDE rules. In the valedictory programme, Aman Kalsotra, Director Computer Point Technologies distributed prizes among the winners.
In female category, youngster champion title holder of State Shivanshi, who is eight year old and student of Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1 Udhampur again proved her mettle by clean sweeping the opponents and claimed 40th Computer Point Technologies Open Women Chess Champion Title-2016. She secured Champion Trophy apart from gold medal for her effort and voluntary contribution to promote chess among youngsters while Shabnam got runner up title trophy for magnificent game. In female under school category, Renu showned better skill than Shikha and got Champion Title in her name while Shikha was satisfied with runner up title. In Male Open Category, Ravinder Atri proved his extraordinary champion skills and was crowned with Computer Point Men’s Open Chess Champion Title-2016 while Madhav Sharma remained on second position.
In Under School Category Rashiv Khajuria Student of Govt. M.L Higher Secondary School Boys Udhampur gave tough competition to other competitors and secured first position in Under-18 category apart from that he also competed for open challenge chess title and remained runner up and was awarded with gold medal for his performance.
Vijay Singh, Sudhir Khajuria, Pooja and Simran were also awarded with mementoes for their contribution as arbiter in the tournament while Rahul Sharma was felicitated for excellent service as Tournament Secretary. Organisers also announce award of trip to winner of this year’s championship.
